A NOTE FROM NETDOCUMENTS CEO, JOSH BAXTER
In today’s economy, future-focused companies are concentrating their investments on people and
must-have, foundational technologies. Sustainability is becoming a more prevalent part of the conversation
as organizations (and households) are tightening belts and finding creative ways to stretch resources. And
expectations of top talent will continue to shape how we attract and retain the people who are essential to
making our businesses thrive.
Legal tech will play an important role: according to a survey by legal network Meritas, a global alliance of
independent law firms, 86% of law firms predict that spending on legal technology will increase in the next
three years,1
and General Counsel report that increased use of technology offers the greatest opportunity for
cost savings.2 Also, a recent Thomson Reuters Institute study reveals that 84% of law leaders plan on making
greater use of technology for reasons other than to cut costs.3
The market dynamics and customers’ desire for consistency and interoperability is driving the merging
of technology vendors. The interesting thing is that only some vendors are doing it well with a strategic
roadmap for how everything will fit together and bring benefits to the legal profession. There will be obvious
opportunities to utilize tools that:
• Support the type of work you’re doing, wherever you want to do it
• Provide trusted, easy-to-manage security and governance
• Allow you to consolidate technologies and reduce redundancies
